The Derbyshire Union of Golf Clubs organised its annual Inter Club Foursomes knockout competition which ran through the summer and culminated in the finals being played at Burton-on-Trent Golf Club.

The Matlock Team was led by captain John Simmons and comprised of Les Mooney and Ian Marr, both of whom played in every round, accompanied by Andrew Turk and Matlock junior Tom Mooney.

Matlock’s opponents in the 36 hole Division Two Final were Tapton Park Golf and in a closely fought contest the Matlock team won the Crompton Cup by a margin of five holes.

Fourteen-year-old Tom was drafted into the team only two days prior to the final and as the playing partner of his uncle Les, it was his 12 foot winning putt that secured the cup for the Matlock team.

Meanwhile the Matlock Ladies will be hoping they can emulate the men when they contest the finals of both the Silver and Bronze competitions in the County Inter Club Foursomes competition.

Both teams had semi-final wins with a Silver team victory over Maywood and the Bronze team defeating the Tapton Ladies team.

The Seniors team, under the captaincy of Rae Gladwin, played their final match of the season at Cavendish Golf Club and signed off with a credible 4-4 draw which gave a final tally of played 16, won nine, halved three, lost four.

On the bowling green the Golf Club Bowls Section recently held its second Invitation Tournament. In perfect bowling conditions fifteen Matlock bowlers and their guests played a series of closely contested matches which culminated in a final of 13 ends.

This resulted in a 13-9 victory for Chris Reeve (MGC) and his guest Alan Stone (Whitworth Park) over Tony Willacy (MGC) and Eileen Moore (Wingerworth).
