Maddie and Abbie both up for awards at Derbyshire sporting event

Local youngsters Maddie Thompson and Abbie Wood have both been nominated for an award at the upcoming Derbyshire Schools’ Sports Association Awards.

18-year old Maddie, of Lady Manners School, and 14-year old Abbie, from Buxton Community School, have both impressed in the past year in the fields of wheelchair basketball and swimming respectively.

Organised by the Derbyshire Schools’ Sports Association (DSSA), the awards event aims to recognise the sporting achievements of school pupils and pay tribute to some of those who have made a valuable voluntary contribution to school sport.

Karen Shopland, Chair of the DSSA said: “This has been another fantastic year for school sport in Derbyshire and I would like to congratulate all of the nominees.

“The talent and achievement demonstrated by the young people across the county is awe-inspiring.”

The event will be held at the County Ground in Derby on Tuesday, October 1.
