Another scintillating hat-trick by their Polish international striker helped Chesterfield end the unbeaten record of leaders Boots and leapfrog them to the top of the table.

Damian Jarzembowski was in irrepressible form as his side beat Boots 5-3 to make it four matches without defeat in Division Two of the Midland Men’s League. And proud player/coach Ben Lamb described the display as “one of our best away from home for some time”, adding: “We have established a a counter-attacking way of playing and the boys executed the game-plan perfectly.

“We had to ride out plenty of pressure, but we stood firm. We are in a good place and are building momentum. We can’t get ahead of ourselves, though, We just need to keep doing the right things.”

Lamb also picked out Matt Lloyd for special praise after the goalkeeper pulled off some heroic saves, especially early on before Adam Innocent gave Boots the lead, dispatching a well-taken penalty corner.

Against the run of play, Chesterfield bagged a lucky equaliser when Jarzembowski’s strike was deflected by a defender over the ‘keeper. But it woke them up and the ever-dangerous Jarzembowski not only slammed home an unstoppable shot to put them ahead, he converted a penalty to make it 3-1 and complete his fourth treble on the trot.

Innocent pulled one back before the break and after Adam Bointon had made it 4-2, the same player completed his own hat-trick to set up a tense finale. But a pulsating game was finally settled when Christian Battye drove home.
