Talented Charley in national win

A teenage member of Buxton and High Peak GC has been crowned 2013 boys 15-17 champion of England Golf’s National Skills Challenge.

Charley Mycock, who attends Derby College, came through local and regional qualifying events against 1,400 other competitors to win the national title at England’s National Golf Centre in Woodhall Spa.

The finalists had all taken part in two official challenge events at their golf clubs earlier in the year and then won through one of four regional finals.

The skills challenges involved putting, chipping, bunker, pitching and long game, with some great scores achieved on the challenging set-up at the world famous short game academy.

Performance Golf academy director Nigel Furniss commented: “I’m really pleased for Charley who has worked extremely particularly hard on his short game to win this prestigious award.

“He has represented both Bakewell & Buxton High Peak Golf Clubs with great distinction to be crowned National Champion.”
