Woodwork denies Club three times in defeat

Brimington United edged out Club FC 3-2 in an entertaining Chesterfield Sunday League Division Four clash between two mid-table sides.

United came back from a goal down to take the points, but Club struck the woodwork three times and missed other chances in their attempt to claim the points.

The woodwork first intervened on the quarter of an hour mark when Scott Hegarty saw his effort bounce back off the post.

Club were not to be denied on 17 minutes when Connor Scott crossed for Dale Hegarty to convert at the far post.

The shock of conceding brought Brimington into attack mode and they equalised after 29 minutes when Carl Newell nipped in to slot past David Gibson.

Brimington doubled the lead thanks to a superb run from Dan Hawkins. His ball went to Chris Marshall, whose first-time effort flew in.

Club came out for the second half with a new determination and Richard Henson headed over at a corner befor Scott hit the woodwork.

But 17 minutes from time Gino Defazio makd it 3-1.

Club fought on and Dale Hegarty’s effort was cleared off the line and Scott Hegarty hit the woodwork before Shane Dickens popped up to slot the ball home at the far post on the final whistle.
