The Chesterfield boss insists he will be happy with what he’s got in terms of options up front, should no loan deals materialise.

But he admits he’s on the lookout, with hopes of completing some business soon.

“We’re hoping we can do something before the weekend,” he said.

“There’s plans to bring people in, whether or not we can do that remains to be seen.

“From our perspective, we’ve made approaches to players and we’ll wait and see if clubs will let them out.”

He believes that forwards are the key to surviving in this division.

“Goals will keep you up. Clean sheets are fine, but goals will keep you up,” he said.

“The more we’ve got competition, the more we can get that type of player on the pitch, we will survive.

“What we’ve got a tthe club already is good and I’m quite happy with that, if we had to go into the rest of the season with that that’s fine.

“But it’s always beneficial to get a bit of a spark at this time of the season and if a new player can bring that spark with him that will be great, it will give everyone a lift.”

One of the players who has gone out on loan this week is Mani Dieseruvwe who joins League Two Mansfield until the end of the season.

For Wilson, that was a better option than simply letting the big frontman stay in the reserve side.

“They need games. Mani has been fairly intermittent in the team since I arrived and he needs games.

“We can make a better assessment of him playing against better opposition than reserve football.

“He’s about fourth or fifth choice, it was sensible to do that.

“It can get frustrating for players.”
