Wilson: '˜Ariyibi getting better and better'
Spireites boss Danny Wilson believes Gboly Ariyibi is improving with every game he plays and has underlined the importance of keeping him at the Proact Stadium.
Flying winger Ariyibi shone as Chesterfield secured their first three points of the season in their first home game of the season against Swindon Town on Saturday.
The 21-year-old’s future has been subject of speculation with Reading among the clubs reported to be interested in the wide man, who is in the last year of his contract.
Talks between Ariyibi and the Spireites are ongoing and Wilson is keen to keep one of his prized assets.
“It’s important to me we tie him to a deal,” said Wilson. “That’s for the club to decide on that one.
“While he’s in front of me and playing as well as he is then everything is fine with me. We’ve been talking with him already and it looks positive.
“More players with that ability you’ve got a better chance of finishing higher up the league than without them. I think he’s been very buoyed playing week in week out.
“We gave him the opportunity midway through last season and he’s grabbed it with both hands. He’s never looked back. He’s getting better and better in every game he plays.”
Ariyibi isn’t the only man to have impressed this season with striker Ched Evans another who has caught the eye for his on-field performances.
Wilson said: “They’ve given everyone a lift. The way the pair of them has started the season, it’s enabled us to have a real cutting edge to our attacking play.
“To have players in the team like we have is a big lift for all the team. You need that difference in your team and we’ve got that at the moment.”
Former Sheffield United front man, Evans, has scored two in two in the league this season and Wilson has been pleased with his progress on the field.
“I couldn’t have asked for any more,” he said. “I don’t think anyone expected him to hit the ground running like he has and there’s still a lot more to come from him.
“I think, overall, you can be quietly satisfied with the progress he’s made already, considering he’s been out the game for a long time.”
And added: “We’re not getting carried away, we’re two games in to the season, we’ve got some momentum with us and let’s continue with it.”
