The National League season is suspended indefinitely and clubs have been asked to vote on whether the campaign should end now.

But Spireites caretaker boss said all talk of football and the season is “irrelevant” to him as the number of hospital deaths in the UK is now more than 10,000.

“There are people losing their lives and we are talking about finishing a season,” he told the DT.

“I find it very difficult to talk about football at this very moment in time. It is irrelevant to me at this moment in time.

“I find it a little bit disrespectful to everything else that is going off.

“I can imagine people going into hospitals everyday going ‘is that all they have got to worry about’ and I think like that.

“I look at the news everyday and look at the updates of where we are and when it comes up that there has been another 900 deaths in 24 hours and that we are over 10,000 and we are worried about if we are going to finish nine football matches.”

He added: “I really don’t care if we finish it (the season) or not and I mean that in the nicest way.

“If we have to play we will play if we don’t then I am not really bothered.”
