What has impressed John Pemberton the most about new Chesterfield chairman

The community trust took over the club one month ago and manager Pemberton has been impressed with what he has seen and heard so far.

“The conversations I have had with Mike have been great. He is very supportive, he has not hidden anything and I understand where we are,” Pemberton told the DT.

“I just think it is important to be honest. I don’t care how brutal it is, just be honest with where we are and that is the relationship that we have had in our short time working together.

“The biggest thing that I like about him is he has been a supporter of this football club since he was nine-years-old. He wants the best for it and I am desperate to do the best and hopefully give him and everybody a different season from what they’ve had in the last two or three years.”

There is a positive atmosphere around the Blues at the moment and Pemberton likens it to what he experienced at one of his previous clubs.

He explained: “At the moment it is like a family club and I had a similar feeling when I went into Bristol City after just being relegated from the Championship. A lot of people around the club had been there a long time and they were good people and I’ve got good people at this football club and I am determined to turn things between us.”

One of Pemberton’s main aims is to connect the Spireites supporters with the players again.

He added: “The messages I’ve had from supporters has been that it has been nice to sit in the pub with a pint on a Saturday evening and we’ve won a game and as stupid as that sounds it means a lot to people and I don’t take that lightly.

“I’d love to be able turn it around and be here long-term but I know we’ve got to get results but I am really looking forward to having a go at it.”
