Goals from Tom Denton, Alex Kiwomya and two from Luke Rawson gave Town their first three points of the season, although the scoreline did flatter the hosts in what was a very close encounter for 80 minutes until the Blues ran riot.

“I don’t what happened months and months before but I think you are seeing more of a fight in them and when we have got beat we have always bounced back,” Pemberton said.

“I looked at the table the other day and I know we had only played one game but we were fourth from bottom and I just don’t want to be there. I am sick of seeing us there and the players are the same.

“We are going to get better but it is work in progress.

“I think it is important that they do (take confidence from the win).

“But they should not have been under confident from playing the other day because I felt the first half against Hartlepool I thought we were more than capable.

“But the main thing is I know we will get better.”

Defender Haydn Hollis, who was not included in the matchday squad, was fit but Pemberton left him out because he felt he did not need another centre-back on the bench with three already starting.

He also said that Joe Rowley was ‘unfortunate’ not to be included in the matchday 16 but feels he can’t have him and Mandeville on the bench because they are ‘similar’ players.
