'Still looks like one of the club’s better summer signings' - player ratings from Chesterfield 1 Gillingham 1
Manager Paul Cook surprised many by sticking with the starting line-up that dipped at Rotherham United for the midweek tussle with Gillingham.
A few players had a point to prove and did so, the only snag they couldn’t quite put to bed a Gillingham side that closed out a draw with some all-hands-to-the-pumps defence and use of the dark arts.

And so to the minefield of the Player Ratings ...
Ryan Boot 6: Didn’t have too much to do shots wise and one miss-timed punch aside, it was another competent shift from the stopper. Would have kept a clean sheet but for a deflection.

Remeao Hutton 6: Playing against his old club, the full-back’s most prominent work seemed to come came late on when he pushed on and floated in some inviting crosses that begged for a telling touch.
Jack Simpson 6: As at Rotherham on Saturday, another good game but had an involvement in an opposition goal. Still looks like one of the club’s better summer signings.
Kyle McFadzean 6: 40 next year or not, the centre-half was comfortable. Nearly scored with a close-range flick early in the second half.
Lewis Gordon 6: Another solid stint from the trusty left-back and should have hit the target from close in in the first half. Still waiting for his first Chesterfield goal.

Ryan Stirk 7: Ran around, harried opponents, got a foot in. Dirty work aplenty.
George McEachran 6: Better than at Rotherham on Saturday before being subbed late on.
Dilan Markanday 7: Heavily involved in team’s best work in the first half and only a finger-tip save denied him a goal. Just need a bit more end product from all the skill.
Liam Mandeville 8: Here, there and everywhere and did more than most to keep Gillingham under the cosh. Low-down save denied him what would have been a deserved winner.
Josh Koroma 7: Starting place must have been in question after Saturday. Justified Paul Cook’s loyalty with a beautifully taken goal and a shoot-on-sight attitude. Quieter second half, hence the mark.
Lee Bonis 6: Shook off a nasty knock at the weekend to play. Led the line whole-heartedly but the better chances fell to others.
Subs
Louie Marsh (for Koroma 76) 7: On for his debut less than 48 hours after joining. Slipped into little pockets of space and looked decent.
Tom Naylor (for McEachran 76) 6: Not quite as effective as his sub stint on Saturday but his fresh legs helped the cause.
Fraser Bryden (for Bonis) 77) 6: On for Bonis and still adjusting to the cut and thrust of League Two.
Junior Eccleston (for Hutton) 90 N/A
