Staveley Miners Welfare tasted defeat for the first time this year on Saturday, in a 2-0 loss at promotion-chasing Bridlington Town.

A Joel Sutton penalty on the stroke of half-time put the home side ahead before Andy Norfolk made it 2-0 in the 74th-minute by the seaside in East Yorkshire.

Following a run of three wins and a draw, Brett Marshall’s Trojans lost out in what was their third consecutive away fixture in the Toolstations NCEL Premier Division.

Bridlington sit second in the table - a point behind leaders Worksop Town, who lost 4-1 to Tadcaster Albion. Tadcaster are five points off the top with four games in hand.

Staveley return home on Wednesday night to face Notts rivals Clipstone (7.45pm kick off) at Inkersall Road. Clipstone suffered a second straight defeat on Saturday.

They lost 3-2 at Pickering Town due to an 88th-minute goal from Nathan Kamara. Clipstone had clawed their way back in to the game from two down through goals from Ellis Wall and Nicky Walker.

Elsewhere in the Premier, Handsworth Parramore are third as Alex Rippon’s injury-time strike snatched them a 2-1 victory at the expense of visitors Pontefract Collieries.

Albion Sports lost a little ground in sixth place as, despite Sam Bradley giving them a 39th-minute lead, they were beaten 3-1 at home by Maltby Main with Ryan Carroll’s brace sandwiching a goal from Joshua Hemmingway for the Miners in the second half.

At the foot of the table, Parkgate climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-2 home draw against bottom side Liversedge, two early goals from Jordan Turner cancelled out by Vaughan Redford and Tom Jackson for the away team after the interval.

Sedge are now four points behind the side just above them Armthorpe Welfare who won 1-0 at home to Brigg Town, Stuart Preston’s 78th minute winner dragging the visitors back into the bottom three.

Joe Thornton’s hat-trick helped Athersley Recreation to 4-1 home win over Rainworth Miners Welfare whilst Retford United defeated hosts Garforth Town by the same scoreline, Adam Lee getting two of the Badgers’ goals.

Ben Beckles struck in stoppage time to claim a 2-1 victory at home for Thackley against Nostell Miners Welfare.

And the NCEL’s last representative in this year’s FA Vase bowed out in the fifth round.

Cleethorpes Town were beaten 2-1 at home by Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Kidlington. Brody Robertson scoring in the 48th-minute for Town.
