Matlock Town manager Nathan Haslam continues his moulding of his Gladiators side with the signing of midfielder Sonny Hilton from Enterprise National League North side Marine AFC and the departure of Zak Goodson.

Sonny has made eleven appearances for the Mariners since joining from Southport FC in the summer, scoring once.

The energetic box-to-box midfielder impressed during his time at Southport, making over 80 appearances for the club.

Sonny came through the ranks at Fulham, where he enjoyed a successful spell in Premier League 2, captaining his side and making 63 appearances while contributing 31 goal involvements.

The talented midfielder has also represented his country at international level, earning appearances for England U16, U17 and U19.

Departing the club is Zak Goodson who joined us from Quorn AFC earlier this season and exits the Proctor Cars Stadium with our best wishes.

"We didn’t go for a point. We went for the win. Under the circumstances, being 2-1 down to two really cheap goals and how dangerous Garforth were, we’ve got to be happy with a point.

"It’s still earlta da

Sonny Hilton. Played full 90

"He has dropped a couple of leagues but he wasn’t starting for Marine and he wanted a platform to be in a team where he can progress.

"He’s still hungry and I want hungry players at the football club who want to progress as well.

"I think it was a solid debut from Sonny. There was some nice touches and he got through 90 minutes and he has not played 90 minutes in the last three or four weeks so credit to him for that.

"He will be a good addition for the squad. He’s a good footballer, there’s some quality there and he get assists without a doubt.

"I’m looking forward to him getting a little bit fitter and affecting games as well.”
