The noise grew around the Proact as the Spireites took control of the latter stages, despite never really hurting the visitors.

Hurst said the atmosphere played a big part in Town’s late resurgence.

“I thought we could’ve won the game,” he said.

“Chesterfield might think similar, but for me the Chesterfield support were excellent, really got behind the team and maybe made you feel like you were under a little more pressure than you were.”

Hurst admitted that he had addressed the danger Ian Evatt posed from corners and free-kicks before the game, but his side were unable to deal with the centre-half late in the first half as he cancelled out Tyler Roberts’ opener.

“We got ourselves in front started the game well,” he said.

“They had a lot of the ball without hurting us too much.

“We’d said about set plays and the threat of Evatt and couldn’t stop it.

“Then in the second-half I thought we started it well, were on top for spells and looked more threatening.”

He reserved praise for Thorsten Stuckmann, the German stopper who ensured Chesterfield kept a point with a fantastic point blank save from Stephen Humphrys in the second half.

“There was a fantastic chance to win it with Stevie’s header but it was a point rather than the three we’d have liked,” said Hurst.

“Credit to the goalkeeper who’s having a good spell for them.”
