“He has shown flexibility, leadership, and he will be the club captain going forward. As an ambassador for the community he will now be our club captain, which I am delighted he has

accepted that offer from the club.

“I know the board is very happy because he is that ambassador in the community, he is that bridge for us along with some other players, but he will lead that process.”

Weston, who has settled in the area with his family, has started every game except one this season.

His fitness levels have led some of his teammates to nickname him the ‘machine’ and Rowe says he is a role model for others.

“He has been in great form and he has really been part of the heartbeat of what we are doing,” the Blues boss added.

“He is a definite role model on and off the field. He leads by his actions. He is mainly the first in and last out nearly everyday, that is impressive.

“The shape he is in, at his age, is outstanding and the figures he is hitting in games when it is needed is outstanding too so he fully deserves his deal.”
