COYB!
Tipping it down
Well good afternoon everybody.
Both teams are finishing their warm-ups in front of me in the pouring rain. Classic bank holiday weather!
Torquay are the league leaders, the highest scorers in the division and have won seven of their last eight so it goes without saying that Town are going to be up against it today.
It is a big boost to have Gavin Gunning back in defence and it is great to see Jak McCourt back in the squad after a muscle injury.
Liam Mandeville impressed off the bench against Hartlepool so he has been rewarded with a start.
No surprise to see James Rowe freshen it up with Alex Whittle, Martin Smith and Kairo Mitchell also coming in.
I’d take a point today but my gut feeling is a narrow away win. Hope I’m wrong!
Torquay team news
The visitors make just one change as Benji Kimpioka is recalled to the starting line-up in place of Scott Boden, who of course is on loan from Torquay and is not allowed to play today.
TEAM NEWS - GUNNING RETURNS
(3-4-1-2) G.Smith; Kerr, Gunning, Maguire; Carline, Oyeleke, M.Smith, Whittle; Mandeville; Rowe, Mitchell.
Subs: Rowley, Clarke, McCourt, Whelan, Yussuf.
So in come Gavin Gunning, Martin Smith, Alex Whittle, Liam Mandeville and Kairo Mitchell.
Good to see Jak McCourt back on the bench after a muscle injury.
Out go Josef Yarney, Joel Taylor, Curtis Weston, Jack Clarke and Nathan Tyson.
Weston has been struggling with a sore Achilles so no surprise that he is not involved.
John Croot in his programme notes
“Following the injury to Akwasi Asante, coupled with the fact that Tom Denton was already out of action, the manager felt that it was vital for us to bring in another striker for the run-in. We were delighted to be able to sign Danny Rowe - a player James had identified as being one of his targets earlier in the season.”
James Rowe in his programme notes
“The sheer volume of games and the intensity of the games due to our league position require huge amounts of energy and mental strength from our players and staff. I can see first hand just how much the playing squad is pushing and being pushed to succeed.”
