Final thoughts from fan writer Ben

And breathe! The Spireites are over the line and they emerge 2-1 winners away at Kings Lynn this afternoon. It got nervy at times, but Town have picked up three more vital points and that’s what ultimately matters.

As I stated at half-time, I don’t think Chesterfield were ever playing particularly badly this afternoon, even when they were trailing, and their shortcomings were more down to individual lapses in concentration and/or poor decision making. They had control of the game for large portions and there was always a feeling that a goal might be coming. Of course, as time went on, you start to get nervous watching at home, but sure enough, James Rowe’s men found a way to turn it around. There’s work to do, undoubtedly, and it would an inaccurate to say that the Spireites put in a complete, polished performance. However, once again Town have proved that they are capable of grinding out a win in almost all situations, and that is a skill that is difficult to master and one that separates the genuine promotion contenders from the pretenders.

Overall, whilst there is certainly still some room for improvement, James Rowe and his team can consider that a good afternoon’s work, with three points on the road an outcome that I don’t think any Town fan will be turning their nose up at, particularly at this stage of the season. Those three points help further stabilise Chesterfield’s place in the play-offs and, given where they were just a few months ago, that’s a very pleasing thing to able to say. Bring on Tuesday against Boreham Wood!

Two second-half goals in a minute from subs Nathan Tyson and Tom Whelan secures the Spireites their fifth straight win.

Big chance for Kiwomya but he fires straight at Smith!

1-2

Reaction from fan writer Ben

My word! Two goals in rapid succession and the game has been turned on its head, 2-1 to the Spireites! No less than they’ve deserved in my opinion. They’ve dominated the play in this second half, and you felt all they needed was to find the final cutting edge. At last they did, not once but twice, with Nathan Tyson and then Tom Whelan showing that clinical instinct with two smart finishes to complete the turnaround for Town. It’s taken a while, but finally it’s clicked for Chesterfield, and smart game management from here should ensure another vital three points. Get in!

10 to go and Chesterfield have flipped this game around with two goals in a minute. Kiwomya is on for Lynn.
