Final thoughts from fan writer Ben
That’s it! Full time at The Hive then and it has finished Barnet 0-2 Chesterfield and, barring some more clinical finishing at times, that could hardly have gone much better from a Spireite perspective. A truly dominant performance from Town and whilst, granted, their opponents didn’t really offer much of a threat today, you can only beat the side that is put in front of you and Chesterfield certainly did that, stamping their authority on the game within the first twenty seconds and never really looking back from there.
A pleasing and reassuring display for James Rowe I’m sure, but also an informative one, as today’s showing, in my opinion at least, served as another example as to the benefit of starting with two strikers, as both Asante and Yussuf and later Dinanga and Tyson proved to be effective pairings which allowed the Spireites to apply pressure right from the front and gave The Bees defence little rest. This added potency up front offered by the tactical switch could prove to be the final piece in James Rowe’s jigsaw, as appears to have solved some of the shortcomings that had seemed to hinder Chesterfield in their past two games.
Overall, a great afternoon for Town, with three vital points secured, a potential banana skin navigated and a very satisfactory performance to go with it, and hopefully this display of what Chesterfield are really capable of quashes any potential negativity or doubt which may have started to creep back into the Spiretes camp following the back-to-back defeats suffered in their previous two outings. What a way to bounce back!
FT: Barnet 0 v 2 Chesterfield
Goals from Tom Whelan and Adi Yussuf get the Spireites back to winning ways. Fully deserved. Should have been more. Barnet finish with 10 men.
Barnet down to 10
Red card for Barnet. Richards-Everton on Tyson. Bad challenge. Deserved.
Vasiliou beats Whittle, crosses from the right, Mason-Clark attemps an overhead-kick but it goes over the bar. Not far off. Three minutes added.
For Maguire for a late challenge on Taylor who had skipped past him down the right.
On target from Tyson, cutting inside on his left foot from out wide. Six to go, 0-2.
For Whittle on 78 minutes. Barnet not giving up. Town need a quiet five minutes.
Final sub - 73 mins
Joe Rowley is on for his first appearance since January due to injury. He replaces Tom Whelan.
By Jack Clarke. Nicks the ball and plays a lovely lofted pass into the path of Tyson but Azaze rushes out to claim. Clarke has been very good.
Over from Maguire
From just inside the area after Carline’s cut-back. 67 gone, 0-2.
Double Town sub 64 mins
Tyson and Dinanga replace Yussuf and Asante. A new front pair for the Blues.
