Wrexham v Chesterfield: LIVE UPDATES

Key Events

  • FT: Wrexham 0 v 0 Chesterfield
  • Dominant Town slip to eighth after draw
  • Danny Rowe makes his debut, Grant Smith recalled in goal
  • G.Smith; Kerr, Gunning, Maguire; Carline, Weston, Oyeleke, Taylor; Clarke; Rowe, Mitchell. Subs: Yarney, Whelan, Mandeville, Tyson, Yussuf.
  • Spireites appoint new first-team coach

From Taylor on Hall-Johnson. He luckily avoids a booking. Eight minutes to the break, 0-0.

And Chesterfield are having the better of this one I’d say. They are having lots of possession and there is more of a spark to their play in the final third. Having said that, Wrexham look threatening going forward.

Lovely chipped through ball by Rowe finds Mitchell whose first-time effort is superbly kept out by Lainton in the Wrexham goal. Great save, to be fair.

20 gone, 0-0. Taylor is looking lively down Chesterfield’s left and Danny Rowe is dropping deep and trying to link the play.

There’s been a coulple of good bits of defending from Maguire.

Is looking bright for Chesterfield down the left.

Good defending from Maguire moments ago after Wreham countered.

15 played, 0-0.

For Town as Mitchell claims he was dragged down after Rowe’s chipped through-ball. Would have been a bit soft, in my opinion.

Wrexham’s Davies has the first shot of the game from distance but it goes well wide.

At the other end, Taylor gets down the left, Mitchell is ready to finish at the far post but it is headed behind for a corner.

The visitors keep the pressure on and win two more corners, their third of the game already, but the last one comes to nothing.

Wrexham are in red shirts and white shorts and socks, while Chesterfield are in all blue.

Debutant Danny Rowe is wearing number 36.

Off we go!

Welcome to a sun-soaked Racecourse Ground ahead of another big, big game in the race for the National League play-offs.

A reminder that Grant Smith returns in goal, new signing Danny Rowe makes his debut, while Joel Taylor and Jack Clarke also come in. Out go James Montgomery, Alex Whittle, Liam Mandeville and Tom Whelan.

We are moments away from kick-off, stick with us over the next 90 minutes and beyond.

COYB!

Pre-match thoughts from fan writer Ben

After a disappointing display against Halifax last time out, its no real surprise to see James Rowe ring the changes for this one. The changes made are largely to be expected too in my opinion, in particular a return for Smith between the sticks and an immediate place in the starting XI for marquee signing Rowe, who lines up alongside Mitchell in a two-up-top system, which based on recent showings is probably the way to go.

A strong eleven overall in my opinion and one that, despite a few poor performances from Town of late, is more than capable of picking up a result here this afternoon. It certainly won’t be easy though, as Wrexham have picked up some impressive results in recent games, so the Spireites will have to be back to something like their best to pick up three points this afternoon.

At this stage of the season, I think this game is a ‘must not lose’ rather than a ‘must-win’ and as a result, I think a draw would be decent result for Town today. A 1-1 draw is my prediction.
