Chesterfield are looking forward to their first season in League Two for six years and they have already started their business early with three new faces through the door in Kane Drummond, Paddy Madden and Tim Akinola.
Here, we take a look at eight players who are available on a free transfer. Some are more realistic than others, but overall it’s just a bit of fun. Let us know what you think to our suggestions...
5. Hakeeb Adelakun
The winger joined Doncaster Rovers on loan from Lincoln City in January, scoring nine goals and assisting seven times as they finished fifth before losing in the play-offs. The 27-year-old has been released by Lincoln and offered a contract at Doncaster so the smart money would be on him staying in South Yorkshire with manager Grant McCann, who he also worked under at Hull City. Chesterfield have got lots of attacking options but you can never have too many good players. 17 goals and 11 assists for Swindon Town (loan) and MK Dons (parent club) in League Two is a fantastic return but that also means the 25-year-old is likely to have got clubs higher up looking at him. Another one who Doncaster Rovers are keen to keep after he scored 10 times and bagged eight assists last season. The 26-year-old winger has been offered a new contract by Rovers and fans are desperate to see him stay. Photo: Nathan Stirk
8. Billy Sharp
Wowzers. Sharp is 38 but he probably feels he still has a lot to offer and might fancy the opportunity to extend his record goalscoring achievements in the EFL. Financially it might be difficult to make it happen but you'd back him to bag in League Two with the number of chances that Chesterfield create. Photo: Julian Finney
