Port Vale midfielder Manny Oyeleke reportedly on Chesterfield's radar
Port Vale midfielder Manny Oyeleke is the latest name to be linked with a move to Chesterfield.
Reports elsewhere suggest the 28-year-old is on the Spireites’ radar and we are led to believe that there is some truth in the potential move.
The Nigerian is out of contract in the summer so it is possible that Town could pay a small fee to sign him now to help with their promotion push.
National League clubs have until Thursday, April 22 to register new players for this season.
Oyeleke, who can play central midfield and right-back, was at Aldershot Town when Blues boss James Rowe was assistant manager at the Shots so they have worked together before.
Whilst at Aldershot Oyeleke was voted the fans' player of the year and players' player of the year in the 2017/18 season.
He is said to be a popular figure with the Vale fans but has suffered with some injuries while at the club.
He has made 23 appearances for the Valiants this season, scoring two goals.
The former Chelsea youth product started Vale's match against Morecambe on Saturday.
He came through the Brentford academy and has had loan spells at Northampton Town, Woking and Canvey Island.
Before joining Port Vale in 2019 on a two-year deal he had been at Exeter City.
It would be Chesterfield’s second signing in just a few days after striker Kairo Mitchell, 23, made the move from King’s Lynn Town.
On joining his new club Mitchell said: “Chesterfield is a massive club with ambitions to get back in the Football League and I’m here to help them do that.”
