Pinxton pegged back during Belper draw

Pinxton were pegged back and had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Belper at the weekend.

Pinxton lined up on the back of three good away wins at second-bottom Southwell, second-placed Clifton and a cup win against Mickleover Royals.

They took this confidence into the game and started riotously with a constant stream of attacks.

Belper looked like they might weather the storm when a Joel Smith Corner looked to be heading to Whittingham in the Belper goal for an easy punch clear before Jake Allen just beat him to the ball for his second goal in two games.

This, rather than inspire Pinxton into further action, seemed to make them relax a little and their reduced efforts over the next 10 minutes gradually let Belper back into the game.

On the half hour mark a nice bit of counter attacking football found Garnett clean through on Briggs, who pulled off a superb stop to keep Pinxton in front. Not long after good work down the left released the lively Sam Vickers, who cut inside and forced another excellent save from Briggs.

This time the ball fell back into the striker’s path and, with no defender reacting like the Belper striker did, Vickers finished giving Briggs no chance.

The opening exchanges of the second half were scrappy with both teams eager not to lose the game.

Belper piled the pressure on soon after and good work down both wings on a few occasions saw them breach Pinxton’s back-line, though their wingers failed to deliver a killer ball.

Briggs had a couple of routine saves to make, but despite the visitors having the upper hand, Pinxton’s Josh Madin and Jake Allen stood firm to repel any attacks.

Substitutions were made and Pete Stubley and Kurtis Bamford came on to replace Joel Smith and Chris Shelton.

The changes had an initial effect with Pinxton looking dangerous on a couple of occasions, but there were no chances of note for either team after this.
