Penalty-miss costs Clay Cross Town dear at Pinxton
A missed penalty proved costly as the spoils were shared when Clay Cross Town made the short journey to Pinxton for a local derby in the Central Midlands League's South Division.
The spot-kick was awarded in the sixth minute to Clay Cross, but Ryan Ordidge saw his kick saved by home ‘keeper Gareth Briggs.
The Millers still took the lead a minute later when man-of-the-match Joe Newton, who had been an early substitute, fired home from 20 yards. And they looked like holding on for a fine victory until ten minutes from the end when Clay Cross defender Luke Hollis gave away an unnecessary free-kick, which found its way into the top corner, even though ‘keeper Ryan Skidmore got a hand to Jake Vernon’s shot.
The result left Clay Cross 11th in the 18-team table and Pinxton seventh.
