O'Neil ruled out of Spireites' vital trip to Colchester

X-Rays and CT scans confirmed that there was no neck injury as feared and the former WBA player was suffering from concussion which will mean he’ll miss tomorrow’s vital trip to Colchester United.

The loss at the Pirelli combined with Shrewsbury’s win at Blackpool and Fleetwood’s point at Port Vale on Saturday has pushed Chesterfield into the bottom four making this week, Crewe visit the Proact on Saturday, a huge one.

Wilson is hoping to draft in reinforcements for the games. After a fourth straight loss, he said: “It’s a trend that we’ve got to buck. It’s important now that we’ve got this window open that we can try and bring in some players because we’re too thin on the ground and one or two of the players are not performing and the only way to deal with that is to drop them.

“It’s obvious in certain areas what we need strengthening and particularly with injuries we have to look at it very seriously. It’s very important that the club as a whole understand what we need so we can do something about it.”

Reflecting on the Burton game Wilson added: “It was exactly what I was talking about before the game, Burton win games 1-0; one chance all the way through, one goal, not well defended. That’s the essence of everything.

“The goal that we surrendered was so poor it’s unbelievable, but despite dominating the second half in particular, we haven’t really laid a finger on them at the other end of the pitch, and their keeper’s had a fairly quiet game; the last two or three games have been exactly the same.”

The Colchester trip becomes vital; any reward for Chesterfield would see them exit the drop-zone but a win is needed against a side without a win since October and with just two points earned from the last possible 45, both against fellow relegation battlers, Fleetwood and Oldham.
