National League to wait on EFL before deciding whether play-offs can go ahead

The National League will see how the English Football League season pans out before making a decision on whether this campaign’s play-offs can go ahead.

All remaining National League fixtures were cancelled last month and clubs have been asked to give their views on the feasibility of playing the play-offs or to cancel them.

There are doubts over whether the three leagues in the EFL will be able to complete their seasons which could impact on the National League.

For example, if League Two is not finished then bottom club Stevenage are not likely to be relegated to the fifth tier.

However, there would still be one place to fill in League Two following Bury’s drop out from League One.

But the likelihood is that leaders Barrow would take up that spot.

The National League is keen to keep its two promotion places into the EFL but that might not be possible if the League Two season is not completed.

According to reports, expunging all results has not been ruled out.

The National League will need to apply to the FA Council for an extension to the season if all matches have not been played by June 1.
