The 38-year-old injured his hamstring in the replayed FA Cup tie against Stockport County in November.

The former Derby County and Nottingham Forest man, who is out of contract at the end of the season, suffered a setback along the way but is now edging closer to a return.

“Nathan is really close, he has come back into the fold which is really positive for us with his experience, his know-how and his weapons because we know what he can do the pitch so it is a really good thing for us that he is coming back in and it gives us an extra threat at the top of the pitch,” Town manager James Rowe said.

New signing Adi Yussuf is available for the trip to Meadow Lane on Saturday so could make his debut.

Midfielder Tom Whelan is suspended following his red card at Dagenham and Redbridge last month.

Joe Rowley remains out with a hamstring problem and Tom Denton is a long-term absentee.

County will be without defender Richard Brindley and goalkeeper Sam Slocombe.

In other news, it has now been confirmed that the National League season will continue.

“We know we are going to be playing the season which is great for us and a privilege and we have got to enjoy it, which we are, everyday,” Rowe added.

“We are going to roll our sleeves up and have a right go for the club.”
