“It’s disappointing to see,” said the man who was signed from MK Dons in the 2012/13 season before amassing 204 appearances and 42 goals as a Spireite.

“I’ve had some great times there at Chesterfield.

“The most part of my career in England has been there so it’s sad them going down.

“But hopefully with the manager he can rebuild and get them back up.”

“Obviously coming here I knew we were going to be in a title race and to end it the way we did is just magnificent – what a day.

“It was brilliant to have the kids on the pitch like that, pictures you’ll keep forever.”

With Chris Wilder’s Blades Championship-bound, O’Shea is hoping the contribution he made in his 10 appearances, including goals against Swindon, Oldham and Port Vale, will earn him a permanent move to Bramall Lane.

“That would be the dream move,” he said. “Hopefully we can sit down in the next couple of weeks and try to sort something.”

Chesterfield won’t be seeking contract talks with the attacker, boss Gary Caldwell confirmed last week.
