Derby County boss Steve McClaren remains convinced his side can rediscover their good form, providing they can replicate the quality of displays that saw them rise up the table earlier in the season.

The 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend means it’s now six games in all competitions since the Rams won and they now sit 11th in the Championship standings.

But McClaren doesn’t want to see any promotion hopes extinguished just yet.

He said: “We’ve gone from a mood of buoyancy and expectation to a run of a few bad results.

“It’s really disappointing but we have to get over that - it’s how the Championship can be and it’s also how you react to it.

“You can only focus on one game at a time, it’s dangerous to do it any other way.

“We’re trying to go back to doing the same things that got us 22 points over ten games.

“We know this team is capable of going on a run. We just have to believe that we can do that.

“You’ve only got to look at teams like Huddersfield who responded after a difficult spell by going on a fantastic run of results.

“You have to revisit what you do right and seek to replicate it. It got us results and will do again but in recent games we haven’t been doing the right things and the results show that.”
