Matchwinner Curtis Weston backs John Pemberton for Chesterfield manager's job

Weston’s excellent 94th minute strike snatched all three points for the Spireites against Wrexham at the Proact on Saturday.

It was Town’s third win in five under caretaker boss Pemberton and the midfielder sees no reason why he should not be given the job until the end of the current campaign.

He said: “Got to look at results so far since he came in, what's he won? Three, drew one and lost one. That’s it isn't it? If you go through that until the end of the season then he does his job.

"But that is not up to me that is above me. I have got nothing to do with all that.”

When asked what the biggest change has been under Pemberton, Weston added: “Training is a little bit different than how it was.

“I think in training we are working on a lot more organisation and stuff like that and I think that is showing.”

Meanwhile, Pemberton was happy for Liam Mandeville, who came off the bench to score against Wrexham to make it 2-2, which was just his third goal of the season.

“He has been frustrated that he has not been in the team which is fine, I am alright with that,” Pemberton added.

“I have regular chats with him because he has not been in the team to keep him going.”
