Mandeville, who has scored three goals this season, has struggled for consistency this campaign and Pemberton believes that is what he need to add to his game.

“There are people playing in the Premier League at 23 so if you want to climb you have got to start being consistent and producing,” Pemberton said.

“Like everybody else he has still got a lot of improvement to make. I think consistency is the key with that one but when he is on blog he is a handful and very difficult to deal with.

“I don’t know what the intensity will be like but it is all about having a taste and hopefully enjoying it and wanting a bit more of it because if he wants a bit more of it he has got to be consistently good (for us).”

Mandeville won promotion with Rovers from League Two in 2017 and was regarded as one of the biggest talents to come through the Keepmoat academy but was cast aside by manager Grant McCann when he took over at the club and was sent out on loan to Morecambe.

Former Blues boss John Sheridan brought him to the Proact but in November said he was “disappointed” with how he had been playing.

Pemberton added: “It is great for him and it is great for us a club that people are recognising our players are doing okay.

“It has been a good boost for everyone I think.

“The lads recognise it is a good achievement because when I told him in training the other day he had been called up they gave him a little round of applause.

“He has been a good part of what we have been doing.

“He offers us something different in his skillset and England C are recognising that he is the kind of player that they need.”
