The Premier League announced a £125m relief fund for EFL and National League clubs to help them cope with the financial impact of the coronavirus.

But the money is an advance on solidarity payments they would have received in August so it is not extra cash.

And National League teams will share just £2m which works out at £58,333 per club.

Clubs in the National League North and South will only get £13,636.

There is a genuine fear that some non-league clubs will not survive and many have had to furlough staff and players or ask them to take a pay cut.

The Spireites furloughed their squad, staff and boss Pemberton last week.

“The money being filtered down only being an advance for next year I think that is a bit poor if I am honest,” Pemberton told the DT.

Despite his criticism, Pemberton appreciates that this is an unprecedented time for everyone, including the Premier League.

“I think it would be nice if everybody could help because of the very difficult and unusual circumstances we find ourselves in,” he said.

“They (Premier League) have no divine right to help us; they have to look after their own house first.

“It would be nice for every football club to get some help at this time but have we got a divine right to get it? I don’t know.”

Meanwhile, National League chairman, Brian Barwick, has praised the Premier League for their support.

“I am delighted that the relationship between the Premier League and the National League remains so strong,” he said in a statement.

“We are very grateful that the Premier League have advanced us monies to be able to distribute to our clubs in the coming days.

“It is a gesture that will bring some welcome relief to many of the clubs in our league. It is appreciated.”
