Chesterfield signed three new players yesterday, in a hectic transfer deadline day at the Proact.

Gary Liddle and Connor Dimaio were joined at Chesterfield by loanee Tom Anderson, as Danny Wilson shored up his midfield and defence.

Although Spireites paid an undisclosed fee to Bradford City for Liddle, who is reunited with Wilson, they’ve had a frugal 12 months in the transfer market.

Of a dozen players coming in, only Liddle, Rai Simons and Liam O’Neill were bought – all for undisclosed fees.

Young attacker Simons was bought from non-league side Ilkeston, while O’Neill came in from West Brom.

Simons has played 19 times for Chesterfield this season, scoring five times, while O’Neill has made 21 appearances.

Burnley’s Anderson joins Lee Novak on the list of players on loan at the Proact.

Birmingham City striker Novak is Chesterfield’s top goalscorer, scoring nine times in 22 games – injury keeping him out of action earlier in the season.

His partner up front, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has eight goals in 28 games.

He came in last June, on a free transfer having been released by Preston North End.

September 2015 saw the arrival of Chris Herd, again on a free transfer.

The midfielder signed a short term contract, but last month agreed an extension to the end of the season.

He’s made 17 appearances for Spireites thus far.

Perhaps the most frustrating signing in the past year has been Ángel Martínez, through no fault of his own.

The Spaniard arrived at the Proact in August, having left Millwall at the end of a one-year deal.

Chesterfield gave him a two-year contract, but just three games into his Spireites career the former Espanyol player fell in training and ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

He still hasn’t returned to action.

Dion Donohue came on trial to Chesterfield last summer and earned a contract.

The Welshman, who plays in midfield, has appeared 12 times for the club this season.

Also impressing his way into the club in the summer was Jake Orrell, the teenage striker making his professional debut on 11th August in a 3–1 League Cup defeat by Carlisle United.

He has made one other appearance for the first team, and is currently out on loan with non-league Matlock Town.

Alex Cairns joined the club at the end of July, but the goalkeeper didn’t make a single appearance before his release on 7th January 2016, at the end of his six-month deal.

He has since joined Rotherham United.

And Emmanuel Dieseruvwe today celebrates a year at the Proact, having joined permanently from Sheffield Wednesday.

The forward has made 16 appearances, scoring once.
