The 38-year-old is the Spireites’ first summer signing ahead of the new National League season, which is scheduled to start on October 3.

The forward impressed while on loan from Notts County in the second half of last season to help the Blues escape the relegation zone.

"I'm absolutely delighted to finally get it over the line,” Tyson said.

He entered the record books when he became the first ever Chesterfield player to score a hat-trick as a substitute when he bagged a 23-minute hat-trick against Ebbsfleet United.

As well as his goals, the former Nottingham Forest and Derby County man, who was released by Notts earlier this year, posed a big threat with his pace and movement.

Some fans questioned his initial loan signing but he proved everyone wrong with his performances and many will welcome his return.

Chesterfield have not revealed the length of contract he has signed, but it is believed he has penned a one-year deal.

Tyson said: “I know that I’ve made the right choice, coming here. I get along with the lads and I get along with the manager and the rest of the coaching staff and the fans have made me feel very accepted.

“I’m just delighted now that I can finally give it my all for the forthcoming year.

"It was always in my mind that I wanted to come here, especially with how the loan went.

"It ticks every single box and this was always my first choice. I've had a couple of other offers which I've had to turn down.”

He added: “I’ve always prided myself in keeping myself in good shape. Everyone wants to get back to playing football and enjoying the challenge ahead.”

John Pemberton, who is expected to be confirmed as manager in the near future, added: "Nathan offers us a completely different dimension so I was very keen to sign him.

"He is an excellent professional who has looked after himself and he'll be a great asset."
