Strikes from Rhys Oates and Luke Armstrong either side of an own goal by Josef Yarney put the high-flying hosts in a commanding position.
Fraser Kerr pulled one back on the hour when he headed in from substitute Liam Mandeville’s corner.
The visitors, who stay seventh, continued to rally but they had given themselves too much to do against the third-placed Pools.
Here are Liam Norcliffe’s player ratings...

9. Jack Clarke 5
Not involved much in the opening 45 as Hartlepool dominated play. Had more joy in the second-half but not much end product. Replaced with 10 to go. Photo: Rachel Atkins

10. Danny Rowe 5
Third game running and no chances of note. One long-range free-kick in the first-half was well struck and stung the palms of Pools stopper Ravas. Photo: Tina Jenner

11. Nathan Tyson 5
Given a rare start but made little impact. Hooked off 10 minutes after half-time. Photo: Rachel Atkins

12. Liam Mandeville 8
Came on at half-time and made a big impact. His corner was headed in by Kerr. He took the ball, went past players and tried to create. Went close with a half-volley from the edge of the box. Town's best player on the day. Photo: Rachel Atkins
