Ian Evatt admits that no one outside the Chesterfield dressing room believes they can get a result at Millwall tonight.

But the Spireites captain says that would make a positive result all the sweeter.

And being the underdogs might just help some Town players lift their game.

He said: “In the face of adversity sometimes it brings the best out of people.

“Nobody is expecting us to go there and get something, which is possibly a good thing for us, no pressure just to go out there and express ourselves.

“It’s going to be a difficult game for them, possibly after the Lord Mayor’s show having performed wonders to beat the Premier League champions.

“And having played with 10 men for a period of time it’s going to be difficult for them to get going again, hopefully we can take advantage of that.”

Evatt understands why many supporters have written off their side’s survival chances in League One.

He hasn’t, however.

“All we can do is say that we hope they stay behind us and hopefully we can prove them wrong and everyone else wrong,” he said.

“Go out there and prove people wrong, that’s the best feeling in the world.

“They have to take on board the criticism from the fans and within the team and prove they can put in the performances that are required at this level.

“There are some good performances in this team’s locker, it’s just getting it.

“Getting that first win and how we build on it is important.

“We’re running out of games thick and fast, we need to hit the ground running and that starts tonight.”
