Heanor Town suffer opening day defeat

The Lions never really got going in a game in which the visitors maintained their 100 per cent start to the campaign.

Ben Partridge gave Ollerton the lead in the 17th minute when he found the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Gav King came close to doubling Ollerton’s lead when he found himself free in the penalty area, but he headed wide from six yards.

In a game of few chances for Heanor, their best came when Jesse Vowles’ curling effort from distance struck the crossbar.

Ollerton threatened to run away with the game before the end of the first half. Gav King once again went close after being played in, but his shot flew over.

Jake Askew in the Heanor was kept busy just before the interval, his smart save denied Partridge before King skewed the rebound wide.

The Lions pushed for an equaliser early in the second half and they were almost gifted one when George Slack sliced a clearance on to his own crossbar.

However, it was Ollerton who scored the second goal of the game and once again it was Ben Partridge. Partridge’s shot took a big deflection before looping over Askew and nestling into the back of the net.

The goal killed the Lions’ hopes of getting anything from the game, and the result was secured when Gav King got his goal in second half stoppage time. The striker beat the offside trap to round Askew and tap home.
