Guilor’s goal sets up a grandstand finish in Division One

Stephen Guilor scored a late opportunist goal for Jolly Colliers to set up a grandstand finish with Alfreton QTS Division One table toppers Duffield Dynamos.

The pitch survived the referee’s inspection but conditions were otherwise atrocious. In the circumstances, both sides adapted well in a game that was both compelling and gruelling.

Adam Hassel had given the league leaders an interval lead, at which point both teams sought the shelter and sanctuary of the changing rooms. Striker Ryan Bond doubled the advantage early in the second period and looked to have secured the points for his side until Guilor’s intervention.

The home team threw the kitchen sink at their opponents as they strived for an equaliser and came so close when a Brett Julian strike rattled the crossbar. However, Duffield stood firm to secure the 2-1 win that their earlier play probably warranted.

The result was all the more significant as Rainbow International, who could have taken over at the top if winning their games in hand, suffered a 2-4 reverse at the hands of Blackwell MW who are also in the mix. Mark Whitton produced two great finishes to score both goals for the home team that proved insufficient in the final analysis.

Out of Town led at the break but a second half turnaround saw Littleover HM march on in the cup 3-2.
