Goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons is “chomping” at the bit to start his first Chesterfield game.

The 25-year-old, who is on loan from Notts County until the end of the season, has not been able to prise the number one shirt from Shwan Jalal so far.

Fitzsimons saved a penalty against the Spireites earlier in the campaign and boss John Pemberton revealed he was set to have talks with him today.

“Ross has been good,” Pemberton said.

“Funnily enough he wants to speak to me after this (press conference) and I expected it so great.

“He has been very patient and he works very hard.

“When Shwan went down against Harrogate he was chomping to get on.

“He is one I would have no problem throwing in, I think you have seen that when we played Notts County.”

He added: “There is competition for that number one spot and I do not want a number one and a number two, I want two number ones. That is what we are after and the best one plays which is what I said to them when Ross came in.”
