After a close first-half, the Spireites scored three times after the break with goals from Akwasi Asante, Tom Whelan and Jak McCourt securing all three points and their sixth straight home league win on the bounce.

Victory moves the Blues up to ninth in the National League table, just two points off the play-offs.

“Listening to the Yeovil players and the Yeovil management, I think they fancied their chances coming here today,” assistant manager Foster said.

“We showed them the respect we felt that they deserved but I am not 100 per cent sure they showed us the same respect

“I don’t know what preparation they did but they certainly know now we are a good side.”

Asante celebrated his new contract with his 10th goal in 14 league games three minutes after the break following an excellent through-ball by Whelan.

The brilliant Whelan then got on the scoresheet himself with a superb finish from the edge of the box with 20 minutes to go before Jak McCourt rounded off a great afternoon.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game but we felt that if we performed to our maximum that we were capable of winning the game,” Foster explained.

“I think the lads have answered all the questions today with their performance.

“We felt we could have moved the ball better, which we did in the second half.

“Our finishing, taking the chances, was the difference in the second half.”

On Whelan, Foster said: “He is just a bag of energy. He must be the only player in the country that you actually sometimes say to him ‘stand still’. You wind him up and he just keeps going doesn’t he? Unbelievable. He just keeps going and he got his just reward in the end, a superb finish.”

And on Asante, he added: “The boy is a quality player, there is no doubt about that. He scores all sorts of goals, he is a quality centre forward.”
