Pemberton said: “I thought there were a lot of good things that came out of the performance.

“I felt the first-half was like a basketball match, like end to end, which is great for people to watch unless you are standing in the dugout watching it.

“I am disappointed with the goals we have conceded.

“We conceded the first goal I felt against the run of play.

“We had a lot of energy and we went toe-to-toe with a very good side.

“We are disappointed we did not get a point out of it because I felt we deserved it.

“The last goal I am fuming with because it could have been avoided.

“I made the subs and we could have been more solid and we just did not carry that out – the instructions of that – and that is what I am not happy with. In fact I am fuming with it because all we have got to do is stop the switch of play. We do not get back quick enough and we do not stop the switch of play and that is what has killed us.

“All they had to do was drop into their shape and mark the number six and he does not switch it and then the game is done but we don’t do that.”

Chesterfield remain in the relegation zone following the defeat.

The Spireites face rock-bottom Chorley away on Saturday.

Pemberton added: “I am disappointed for them because I felt we definitely deserved something out of the game.

“I felt for long periods we were the better team so it is hard to swallow.”
