Free-scoring Bolsover move above Clay Cross

FC Bolsover shot back to the top of the Central Midlands Football League North Division by putting Thorne Colliery well and truly to the sword.

Saturday’s match saw Bolsover play their game in hand over fellow Derbyshire rivals Clay Cross Town and a thumping 10-0 victory at home to Thorne ensured they finished the day in top spot.

Bolsover have long since passed scoring a century of goals in the league this season, conceding only 26 at the other end, and gave their goal difference another shot in the arm over Thorne.

Second-from-bottom Thorne have been on a torrid run of late, having not won a league game since the beginning of November when they edged past Collingham 4-3 at home. And free-scoring Bolsover were in uncompromising mood on Saturday as they hit double figures to edge Thorne towards the 100-mark for the number of goals conceded this campaign.

The division’s leading scorer Josh Parfitt led the way with four, Ryan Cancellara added two, with the others shared between Josh Scully, Adam Kimberley, Josh Aitken and Jordan Jones.

Parfitt took his tally for the season to 35. He has been well-supported by team-mates Daniel Russell (25) and Joshua Thomas (16) as Bolsover have mounted a challenge for the league title.

Bolsover lead Clay Cross by a single point, both teams having played 24 games.

Bolsover face Welbeck Lions on Wednesday night before the CMFL Challenge Cup tie against Hucknall Town on Saturday at Blidworth. They return to league action on April 1 against AFC Bentley.
