The 53-year-old, who scored 29 goals in 95 league appearances for Chesterfield in the early 1990s, has been involved in player recruitment for many years at Oldham Athletic, Sheffield United and most recently Scunthorpe United.

Turnbull left the Iron for Sheffield United in 2015 and a spell at Oldham Athletic followed before he returned to Glanford Park as head of recruitment in 2016 before leaving the League Two club in July.

One of the community trust’s main aims was to put a recruitment structure in place and that is now starting to take shape.

“Setting up and implementing a recruitment strategy will help us to have a clear and defined process to sign players and attract high-calibre youngsters,” Turnbull said.

“We have short-term plans in place which need to be addressed and then the focus can be on building a solid infrastructure in order to make progress.

“I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to assist the club by helping the chairman, the chief executive and the board."

Spireites chief executive, John Croot, said: “Lee has a highly important role to play, providing us with valuable knowledge and experience.

“Lee’s appointment follows the recruitment of Paul Lemon as our chief scout. The pair have worked together successfully and we look forward to working with them.”
