Doncaster Rovers: Ferguson takes '˜biggest wage cut'

Relegation to League Two has triggered pay cuts across the club - affecting players, management and coaching staff.

The wide scale wage drops have unquestionably freed up funds which have allowed Ferguson to make a very swift and productive start to his summer rebuilding job, with Rovers having already signed Tommy Rowe, Matty Blair, Ross Etheridge, Mathieu Baudry and Joe Wright.

Ferguson has also revealed that last season’s failure also came at a cost to him personally - but he has moved to praise the “astute” way in which the club has reacted to relegation to the fourth tier.

“My salary has been cut probably more than most,” said Ferguson.

“It affects everyone [including the backroom staff].

“Going from League One to League Two is going to have a massive impact.

“I don’t know, but I think there’s other people at the football club that it will affect as well. I don’t think it’s just football people, if you know what I mean.

“But, financially and business-wise, the people in charge have been very good and very astute.

“You’ve seen many clubs get relegated and they’ve gone bust, and they’ve got into all sorts of problems, whereas here that was never going to happen.

“It’s a very well run football club and now we’ve just got to make sure we give something back to the fans next year and get a bit of excitement and momentum back.”

Rovers have carried out a review of their staffing structures since relegation to League Two was confirmed.

The Star understands that kit/training ground manager Phil Goldman, who arrived at Rovers under former boss Paul Dickov, has left the club.
