Derbyshire stars play a key part in England victory over Tunisia

The Spurts frontman bagged two, including an injury-time winner, as England won 2-1 to get their campaig off to a flyer.

But the role Derbyshire played in that success certainly can’t be underestimated with Dronfield’s Gary Cahill taking his place at the heart of the England defence.

It capped a boyhood dream for the Chelsea defender, who began his career all those years ago in the Dronfield youth set-up.

And he was joined by Leicester City defender Harry Maguire who graced the corridors and football fields at

Chesterfield’s St Mary’s Roman Catholic High School back in his teen years.

And they are years he remembers with fondness.

“Those were good days, people really cheering you on,” he said.

“I’ll always remember those school tournaments, they were so much fun. Winning it was even better.”

Alfreton Town can also claim some credit after playing their part in the early development of England goalkeeper after he spent a month on loan at the Impact Arena back in 2013.
