Derby County captain Richard Keogh knows his side can bounce back from Nottingham Forest defeat

Derby County captain Richard Keogh says his side have what it takes to bounce back from their derby defeat last weekend.

The Rams let a 1-0 half-time lead slip before being beaten 2-1 by struggling Nottingham Forest.

And Keogh and his team-mates are determined to avoid back-to-back derby defeats when they face county neightbours Chesterfield in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“We want to bounce back from last week, it was very disappointing for both players and fans to lose against Forest,” he said.

“We played well in the first half, but we didn’t in the second half for whatever reason.

“The game got scrappy and that is not the Derby way. They scored a scrappy goal, which I thought was the only way they would get back in to the game.

“They got a goal late on and it was disappointing for us all. We beat oursevles in the second half.

“That is gone now and we have put in a good week of training ready for Chesterfield.

“We want to get back to winning ways, go on another run and put Forest out of our system.

“We have learnt from the defeat and analysed where it went wrong.

“We have got a good set of players here who stick together. I know this group of players and I know we can bounce back from setbacks.

Paul Cook’s men have led something of a charmed life in the FA Cup this season after they beat MK Dons in Round Two, despite being ordered to replay the tie by the FA after fielding an ineligble player in the original match.

But, despite Chesterfield’s tough passage in to the Fourth Round, Keogh is taking nothing for granted.

Keogh, who has been capped 15 times by the Republic of Ireland, said: “Southport pushed us all the way and Chesterfield will be no different.

“Southport came with nothing to lose, for them it was their own cup final.

“We had to work hard for the win and stay patient. Perhaps we were not at our best, but cup football is all about getting through to the next round.

“We are excited about this game and want to go through to the next round.

“Chesterfield are a good team, who play good football, and we expect them to be a threat and give us a good cup tie.

“They will be bringing a lot of fans with them and it is a great game for everyone.

“Eoin Doyle is in great form at the moment in League One and I’m looking forward to playing against him and seeing what he is all about

“They will be trying to cause an upset, but we know what to expect from them and also what to expect from us.

“The FA Cup is still important, we want to win every game we play as winning helps to breed confidence.”

Derby could give first starts to new signings Stephen Warnock and Raul Albentosa, subject to international clearance.

It will be the first time the Derbyshire sides have played a competitive match since 22nd February 1986.
