Lapses in concentration prove costly

It was an open game and as the clock ticked down you felt there might be another goal in it. Chesterfield had a couple of sighters through Luke Rawson and Jack McKay, but it was Torquay who snatched the three points when Asa Hall struck the winner from a corner in stoppage time. It was a shame because Town had actually defended fairly well for the majority of the match. Dents is on fire

Tom Denton has started the season very well with three goals in three games. He scored the Spireites’ equaliser two minutes before half-time when he followed up Liam Mandeville’s free-kick from the edge of the box which was parried by Torquay goalkeeper Lucas Colovan. Denton was unlucky not to equalise before that when he headed Laurence Maguire’s deep cross from the left against the post. He was brought off after 67 minutes and the Blues missed his aerial presence in their own box when they conceded the late winner.

Should Luke Rawson start against Stockport County?

The 19-year-old was among the subs at Plainmoor as Pemberton opted to stick with Denton and Alex Kiwomya up front. Rawson - who scored two goals off the bench against Woking on Saturday - replaced Kiwomya early in the second half and showed his qualities again. You would have to think that Rawson is very close to starting at the weekend.

Dodgy decisions

There were a number of dubious refereeing decisions which left both benches baffled and angry. None more so when Chesterfield had the ball near the corner flag deep into Torquay’s half and they should have been awarded a clear and obvious foul. Thirty seconds later the ball was in the back of the Blues’ net. After the game John Pemberton said the officials were ‘poor’ and he was right.
