Chesterfield's season to continue after National League clubs vote to carry on

The National League season will continue following a vote by clubs, it has been confirmed.

Seven clubs voted to scrap the campaign while 13 decided to continue. A minimum 51 per cent majority was required to make it null and void.

But the National League North and National League South will be cancelled.

This means that no clubs will be promoted to Step One this season and there will be no relegations.

But two clubs will still be promoted to League Two this year.

In the National League North, 15 clubs voted to end the campaign and seven wanted to carry on.

There was a different result in the National League South where nine clubs voted for null and void and 12 wanted to continue.

However, these two leagues are combined together and so the minimum 51 per cent majority was reached.

All 66 clubs in the non-league’s top three divisions have been voting to continue or cancel their leagues after it emerged government funding would be provided in loans rather than grants.

Chesterfield voted for the season to carry on.

The National League said in a statement said: “There are two votes from the National Division that have not yet been cast, however, the outcome of the resolutions cannot be affected by these votes, however they are cast.

“With the voting procedure now closed, National League North and South fixtures will cease with immediate effect.

“The board will take the resolution outcome to The Football Association for ratification. This will include dialogue regarding promotion and relegation.”
