Chesterfield vs Wrexham LIVE: Build-up, line-ups and odds

Paul Cook bemoans Spireites’ lack of cutting edge amid ‘worst run of his career’

After Chesterfield’s 1-0 home loss to Oldham on Saturday, Paul Cook said he was “at a stage where I don’t feel the lads are doing anything wrong on the pitch, other than the outcome. The outcome is the most important thing, don’t get me wrong - you can’t keep losing games and saying everything is good. I’ve been around football long enough to know that if we keep playing like that we’re going to be fine.

“We’re trying to get the lads to be patient and to create clear-cut chances that you take.”

He added that the team’s poor goalscoring form was a problem - amid what he said was ‘probably the worst run of his career.’

“We’re in a process where it’s not going our way at the minute - there’s no hiding place from that. We lack goals in the team in the team minute and that’s an important factor for any team.

“This is probably the worst run of my managerial career, I’d suggest, and I came back to help the club. I feel the lads are so close to being a good team but there’s something missing, and we’ve got to make sure we find that something.”

Spireites travel to North Wales for Wrexham clash

Chesterfield are set to face Wrexham tonight (7.45pm KO) at the Racecourse Ground, as they look to arrest a poor run of form that has seen them go eight games without a win. Their task is certainly not an easy one - coming up against a Wrexham side that are unbeaten in 21 league games. A win tonight would not only put a dent in Wrexham’s title hopes, but would give the Spireites the kick-start they need as they begin to look nervously over their shoulders at the likes of Southend, Eastleigh and Boreham Wood.

Wrexham: 4/6

Draw: 13/5

Chesterfield: 7/2
