The 28-year-old, who has scored 10 goals since joining in November, hobbled off just after the hour in the Spireites’ goalless draw against Boreham Wood at the Technique Stadium on Tuesday night.

“He will need a scan, it is not looking good,” boss James Rowe said.

“It is a knee injury.

Akwasi Asante suffered a knee injury against Boreham Wood on Tuesday night.

“Akwasi’s injury affected us and I do not think we quite recovered properly.”

The match was not a classic but Town had the best two chances of the game in the opening 45 minutes through Asante and then Fraser Kerr.

“I think we have got to realise that when we win five on the bounce teams are going to come here with a different mentality now,” Rowe explained.

“I think if we score that first clear-cut one from Akwasi, I think that it is a different game and they have to come out and breach us.

“We have got to be better, our ball speed needs to be better, our decision-making needs to be better.

“It was not quite there but it is six unbeaten and we carry on the momentum.”

He added: “Because we could not gather that momentum in the second-half they could slow it down, a whistle-happy referee, I think it just contributed to a really dour second-half.

“They ground us down a little bit and had some set-plays at the end but credit to our lads because any ball in our box we got first contacts.

“We really restricted them to any chances in the game.

“They did not have one chance on goal, I think they had one shot on target when Grant (Smith) made a save."

Rowe gave debuts to new signings Kairo Mitchell and Manny Oyeleke.

On their performances, the Town boss said: “I think Mitchell had his best passage before Akwasi got injured, he really looked a threat.

“Manny showed his quality, his strength, it was a difficult game for both of them to come into and they have conducted themselves really well.

"There is more to come from both of them.”

Chesterfield face Bromley at home on Saturday (12.30pm KO) next.
