The Blues have been isolating for 10 days but unfortunately not everybody has returned with a clean bill of health so they will sit out the fourth round match at the new Jakesman Community Stadium.

Manager James Rowe said: “We have had some more Covid cases. However, because we were in isolation, we are okay to come back in but unfortunately some players have not come in because they have had positive tests this week as well.

"The health and wellbeing of the players is the most important thing and that is why two or three players have not come back in with the group yesterday.”

New signing Alex Whittle, 27, is unavailable for selection tomorrow night because he is cup-tied after playing in the competition for his former club Gloucester City.

But fellow new signing, Martin Smith, is set to make his Chesterfield debut.

The 25-year-old midfielder joined Town last Friday after leaving League Two Salford City by mutual consent.

“Martin will be straight involved in the squad tomorrow,” Rowe said. “I am signing players to make a difference, an instant impact, and I think that has happened so far with the other signings and I am hoping the most recent signings will have the same impact.”

On what he knows about tomorrow night’s opponents, the Blues boss added: “They are a very strong outfit, physically strong, organised, new stadium as well so they have had a major uplift.”
